PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the silver halide photographic material excellent in resistance to physical scratching and abrasion. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic element has at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer and nonphotosensitive protective layers on a support. The nonphotosensitive protective layers comprise an ultraviolet absorbing layer containing an ultraviolet absorbing dye and a high boiling solvent and a hydrophilic binder near the support and the outermost protective layer containing insoluble matting grains having an average particle size of >=0.5μm and dispersed polymer grains having an average particle size of <=0.2μm and a glass transition point of >=70 deg.C and a hydrophilic binder.
