An injection syringe (10) comprising an elongate syringe body (12) with a tube (16) and a front wall (20) provided with an injection needle (22), as well as a rear actuating piston (14) movable within the tube (16). The body (12) further supports a movable needle shield (36) that may be moved by the actuating piston (14) inserted into the body (12) between a retracted position in which it is behind the injection end (22A) of the needle (22), and an extended protecting position in which the front end of the shield is ahead of the injection end (22A) of said needle (22).
