The filtering system has each 3 adjacent image points along a matrix line of the image information summated, with the obtained sum values held in a memory, from which they are read out for filtering in the column direction. The results of the latter filtering are transferred to the original positions of the image block. Pref. the filter circuit has the input data for the filter module (FIL) supplied from an image memory (SSD) via a barrel shifter (BSH) and a multiplexer (MUX), the output of the filter module fed to a buffer memory (TRAM) with a transposition function.
