The air (17) is directed from the top into the drain access shaft (1) and against the discharge direction of the aerosol (8), and typically from the side at 40 to 50 deg. to the horizontal axis. The volume of air can be more than 10,000 cu.metres per hour, and it can be discharged at 20 to 30cm. above the shaft outlet (2), and it can be delivered by a motor-driven fan (11) on a slewing boom (12). Alternatively the fan can be hydraulically driven, and the boom can be adjustable for height on a drain-cleaning vehicle.
