The appts. for setting the roll gap (1) in a roll stand is intended for roll stands provided with mechanical as well as hydraulic gap adjustment devices. The mechanical gap adjustment device is a rotationally driven nut (10, 10') which rests in the roll stand structure (8) and interacts with a screw (11, 11') taking up the rolling force. The vertically movable insert unit (3, 4) of a support or working roll (5, 6; 5', 6') rests on this screw.
