The connector has an initial locking device provided by cooperating locking elements (9,11) of the plug and socket halves (1,4) of the connector and a second locking device provided by further cooperating locking elements (22,23), only brought into engagement upon full interconnection of the connector halves and inter-engagement of the first locking elements. Pref. both locking elements (11,23) of one connector half (4) are integral with one another, the second locking element of the other connector half formed as a flexible spring tongue, bent about a fold line to bring it into the locking position.
