A spinning station, esp. of a ring spinning machine has a spindle top (3) on which a tube (1) is mounted and the tube wall is weakened in the lower section (8). Also claimed is the tube for the spinning station. Pref. the tube wall in its lower section has recesses, pref. cavities in the form of pockets (14) running laterally along an edge. Alternatively it is thinner than over the rest of the tube with moulded inner areas bounded at the sides by ribs (11), pref. running axially, such that the radius to these surfaces is greater than that to the ribs or it is moulded so that the ribs are on the outer wall.
