EXAMINATION OF MUTAGENICITY OF COMPOUND

PURPOSE: To test the mutagenicity of a compound in a short time. CONSTITUTION: This method for examining the mutagenicity of a compound comprises a step for bringing the compound which is a specimen into contact with a Chinese hamster host cell provided with a shuttle vector having specific properties in a nucleus in a time sufficient to induce the mutagenicity, a step for recovering the shuttle vector from the chromosome of the Chinese hamster host cell into Escherlchla coli, a step for proliferating the Escherichia coli under selected conditions for functioning a marker gene possessed by the shuttle vector and a step for testing whether the mutagenicity is present or not in the DNA for detecting the mutagenicity possessed by the shuttle vector held by the proliferated Escherichia coli.
