PURPOSE: To suppress the deterioration and erosion by oxidation during use and to improve continuous operability by using composite refractory members which are composed mainly of carbon materials and consist of carbide, nitride and oxide for runners, troughs, etc., at the time of casting nonferrous metals. CONSTITUTION: The raw materials for the refractory members contain 51 to 90wt.% carbon components and consist of the balance one kind of the carbide, nitride or oxide of B4 C, SiO2 , Si3 N4 , SiC, Al2 O3 , AlN, ZrC and ZrO2 , or the multi components thereof. An org. binder as a binder is added to these raw materials and after the mixture is kneaded and pressure molded, the moldings are calcined at >=1000 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. More preferably, the B4 C contains >=51% in total of the carbide, nitrie, oxide, etc., of the constituting components exclusive of the carbon. In addition, the carbon component is composed of calcined coke. The binder includes pitch, tar, phenolic resin, or furan resin, etc., to form carbon bonds by calcining. |
