PURPOSE: To obtain a freshness preservative composition of cut flower by combining a specific sulfonylsemicarbazide derivative or its salt with a reducing agent, having a synergistically enhanced acton. CONSTITUTION: This freshness preservative composition of cut flower is obtained by combining a sulfonylsemicarbazide derivative of the formula [R<1> is a 3-4C alkyl or phenyl (replaceable with a halogen, an alkyl, etc.); R<2> and R<3> are each H, an alkyl, an alkoxyalyl, an alkoxyalkyl, C(=X)-X-R<4> (R<4> is an alkyl; X is O or S) or R<2> and R<3> form a 4-5C heterocyclic ring with adjoining N or N=CR<5> (R<6> ) (R<5> and R<6> are each an alkyl)] or its salt with at least one reducing agent. 1,1-Dimethyl-4-(phenylsulfonyl)semicarbazide is preferable as the compound of the formula and the amount of it used is 1×10<-4> to 0.1wt.%. Dithiothreitol, etc. of 1×10<-4> to 1.0wt.% is preferable as the reducing agent. The ratio of the compound of formula I to the reducing agent is preferably 1:(0.1 to 1,000). |
