PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst composition which is useful for a catalyst for the isomerization of saturated 4-8C hydrocarbon by specifying treatment conditions and a catalyst metal in each process in a method in which a mixture of dry aluminum chloride, a group VIII metal, and alumina, after being heated in an inert atmosphere, is heat-treated with hydrogen chloride. SOLUTION: Dry aluminum chloride, a group VIII metal selected from platinum, palladium, and nickel, and a solid substance containing alumina as a support are mixed, and the obtained mixture, after being heated at 450-700 deg.C for about 10min in an inert gas atmosphere, is treated at 300-700 deg.C for about 10min with a gas containing hydrogen chloride. The solid substance is obtained by a process in which alumina is impregnated with a compound of a group VIII metal selected from among platinum, palladium, and nickel, and the impregnated alumina is calcined at 300-650 deg.C for about 10min, and the calcined product is treated at 200-500 deg.C using a reducing gas. The wt. ratio of dry aluminum chloride to the solid substance is (0.05:1) to (1:1). |
