Angular indexation to place a preform or container blank partic. a bottle, of thermoplastic, having a neck with an annular projecting collar; into a predetermined position consists of providing a radial notch (17) in the collar (4) of the preform. At the same time as moving the preform along a straight or curved path it is caused to rotate while a blind indexation means (11) is maintained pushing on the collar until it engages with the notch, stops the rotation and holds the blank in a predetermined angular position. Also claimed is device consisting of an approximately U-shaped holding part that locates under the collar to support it and move it along a set path. A guide (7) extends along the trajectory of the collar edge and is maintained in contact with it so that the collar does not slide on it so causing it to rotate. The indexation part (11) is maintained in contact with the collar edge so that it will engage in the indexation notch, stopping rotation. Also claimed is the bottle preform itself.
