The collar (10) is fitted over the outsides of two pipes (7,9) to be joined and is secured by two clamping parts (14.3) of a pipe clamp (12). The edges of the clamps (14.4) are sharp and bite into the pipes, preventing axial movement. The two sides of each clamp are profiled to fit the contour of the pipes.
