FIELD: pipeline testing methods. SUBSTANCE: method can be employed both for testing new sections of trunk gas pipelines and for testing pipelines in service. According to method, pipeline section under testing is filled with gas by taking it from source up to pressure level equal to gas pressure in source. Then, pressure in this section of pipeline is raised to required level by pumping with the help of gas transfer unit, pressure is maintained during prescribed period and released. Before pressure rising in test section of pipeline, mixture is formed in working volume of transfer unit consisting of natural gas and liquid. After outcome of this medium from transfer unit, natural gas is separated from liquid and is delivered into test section of pipeline, and separated liquid is again used for producing gas-liquid mixture. Usable as gas sources are existing trunk pipelines or pressure pipelines of gas fields, and in function of transfer unit it is possible to use piston-type booster pump. Gas-liquid mixture produced in its working volume should contain at least 5% volume of liquid phase at pressure equal to pressure of gas delivery to transfer unit.
