FIELD: air purity control technique. SUBSTANCE: to continuously controlling methane concentration in the air, gas sensors based on semiconducting metal oxides and reaction-heat sensors are commonly used. Because of simultaneous sensitivity of these sensors to other reducing gases, their selectivity to methane is not sufficiently expressed. Invention enlarges possibility of use of known metal-oxide gas sensors. At temperatures within the range 700 to 850 C such oxygen-sensitive semiconducting metal oxides as GaOreact to methane with extreme sensitivity with no reaction to other reducing gases such as hydrogen or carbon monoxide. High humidity in the air also has no effect on conductance of these metal oxides. So sensors based on GaO, TiO, FeO, CeO, SrTiO, NbOor HfOmay be employed as highly selective methane detectors. EFFECT: highly selective methane sensors proposed. |
