Atmospheric air is delivered from a compressor (6) to an adsorption filter bed (4) which removes some CO2 but has a higher selective adsorption for other and more undesirable impurities such as H2O, SO2 and NOx, the CO2 content of the air downstream of bed (4) is continuously monitored and the result fed to a microprocessor (11), which automatically stops the delivery of air to bed (4) if the CO2 level rises above a preset value, on the assumption that further use of the bed would allow the other impurities to penetrate. A second adsorption bed (8) downstream of bed (4) removes residual CO from the air if this is necessary. The appts. is also claimed. |
