PURPOSE: To attain excellent reproduction of a tone by reproducing a film image brighter than that in the case of usual image processing when an exposure state of the film image is an under exposure. CONSTITUTION: A reference maximum value and a reference minimum value are obtained from an image signal obtained by picking up a film image, an offset and a white balance gain are decided so that the reference maximum value and the reference minimum value cause respectively a prescribed gradation and the image signal is processed based on the decided offset and white balance gain in this film image processing method. A CPU 40 is used to discriminate an exposure state of the film image and decides the offset and white balance gain so that the gradation range of the image signal of the film image is shifted in a narrower and brighter direction of the gradation than the usual gradation range when under exposure is discriminated based on the discrimination result of the exposure state. Since the image signal is processed based on the decided offset and white balance gain, the darker part is reproduced brighter and excellent tone reproduction is realized. |
