PURPOSE: To provide an optical fiber connecting device and a connecting method capable of facilitating the connecting operation of an optical fiber and connecting the optical fiber with low loss in a short time. CONSTITUTION: This optical fiber connecting device is coaxially provided with a cylindrical sleeve 2 having a hole for discharging a refractive index matching agent; a body member 3 where two end areas having a small diameter, a central part area interposed between the end areas, including the sleeve 2 and having a large diameter, a tapered shoulder part 3a formed between the end area and the central part area, and an inner wall concentrically communicating with the hole of the sleeve 2 and having a contact part coming in contact with the peripheral surface of the optical fiber 1 are formed; and a cylindrical lock tool 4 having two end faces where a hole larger than the outside diameter of two end areas of the member 3 and smaller than the outside diameter of the central part area of the member 3, and a tapered recessed part formed concentrically with the hole so that its diameter becomes smaller and smaller toward the edge part of the hole are formed. |
