PURPOSE: To quickly recognize a defect of an object to be inspected thereby to quickly inspect the object, by separating an area to be inspected only when a preparatory separation is successful and judging whether or not the object is good. CONSTITUTION: A luminous flux from a light source 10 is diffused by a diffusion means 20 consisting of diffusing plates 21, 22. A luminous flux penetrating a lens 1 to be inspected (a part area of a low luminance) and a luminous flux penetrating the periphery of the lens 1 (a background area of a high luminance) are photographed by a CCD camera 30. An image-processing device 40 separates the part area corresponding to an image of the lens 1 based on a luminance distribution of an image output of the CCD camera 30. In other words, the device 40 binarizes an input image and preparatorily separates the part area on the basis of a projection distribution. Only when the preparatory separation is successful, an area to be inspected is separated from the part area. An image of the separated area to be inspected is binarized thereby to extract the characteristic amount of defects, etc. Whether the lens 1 is good or not is thus determined. If the preparatory separation is not successful, a defect flag is set and the part is exchanged or, the inspection is terminated when there is no part. |
