PURPOSE: To prevent the gray balance from being lost due to the secular change of an output characteristic in an image output device and the correction of a γ curve. CONSTITUTION: In a gray balance unit 104, the signal levels of respective colors (MY) except a reference color(C) are compensated so as to meet a stored gray balance condition by following a gray balance compensation curve. In the appearance output characteristic of the image output device 106, gray balance is obtained over a whole density range so that the output image with sufficient gray balance is obtained even if the γ curve of an image processing unit 102 is corrected. The output characteristic of the image output device 106 is measured and the gray balance compensation curve is generated/corrected based on the output characteristic and the gray balance condition so that the lost of gray balance due to the secular change of the output characteristic is prevented. |
