PURPOSE: To improve reliability of measurement by arranging a plurality of photoelectric transducing elements in a row along marks or slits on a measure in the measuring direction at an equal distance, whose length is the minimum measuring unit, in a case main body. CONSTITUTION: N pieces of photoelectric transducing elements 6 are arranged in a row at equal distance L1 along a row 4 of a plurality of slits 3 or a row of marks continued on a measure 2 in a case main body while light receiving parts 5 of respective elements are narrowed down to be smaller than the minimum measurement unit L1. When the measure 2 is expanded at the time of measurement, one of slits 3 or mark formed or processed in the measure 2 passes N pieces of the elements 6, so that N times of current changes occurs in the whole of the row 7 of photoelectric transducing elements. Each one of the current changes occurs in frequency of the minimum measurement unit L1 and continuous signals corresponding to fluctuation of the length of the minimum measurement unit of the measure 2 are obtained by synthesizing these signals and the synthesized signals are computed in a digital processing circuit and displayed on a case main body. |
