The system measures the rotational speed or rpm of the wheel and the brake wear, using devices (13a-13d) arranged near the wheel units (11a-11d). Other parts of the evaluation circuit are arranged remote from the wheels being monitored. An electrical transmission system (15) is provided for the electrical transmission of the two signals between the system (13) near the wheel and the control apparatus (12) remote from the wheel. The two signals are superimposed in the transmission system. An evaluation circuit evaluates the two signals. Other parts of the evaluation circuit are arranged remote from the wheels being monitored. Leads (18a-18d) conduct the signals to the display (17).
