In the semiconductor device proposed, the trough (5) is floated in the substrate (1), i.e. it is not connected to a fixed potential. In particular, the trough (5) is not electrically connected to a surrounding guard ring. If, when the fuse link (2) breaks, contact is made between the trough (5) and one stub end (2a) of the fuse link (2), the trough, unlike a trough connected to a fixed potential, has no effect on the potential of the stub end (2a), and thus the functioning of the semiconductor device remains unaffected.
