The invention concerns a method of up-dating the contents of the electronic memory of an electronic appliance. In order to up-date the contents of the electronic memory of an electronic appliance (5), the memory being formed by an EPROM (4), without taking hardware measures, when communication between the electronic appliance (5) and a data-processing system (1) has been established, a code (6) corresponding to the program code of the appliance (5) is loaded from the data-processing system (1) into a RAM (7) of the electronic appliance (5), the RAM (7) being associated with the EPROM (4). When the program code (6) loaded into the RAM (7) has been activated and communication has been established between the RAM (7) and the data-processing system (1), the EPROM (4) is deleted. The up-to-date storage contents are then loaded from the memory (2) of the data-processing system (1) into the EPROM (4) and a reset signal is generated.
