The back rest consists of fibre-reinforced plastics. It is formed from a single or multi-layer blank (2) or semi-finished unit, which contains reinforcing fibres and plastics fibres. The reinforcing fibres in the blank are folded, corrugated, and/or curled, and are stretched when the blank is formed. The plastics fibres are expandable or stretchable and meltable, and form a matrix around the reinforcing fibres during cooling. The back rest has at least one X, Y, or V-shaped stiffening section. This contains more rigid reinforcing fibres, and/or these occupy a higher bulk density, and/or form a thickening of the arm rest.
