PROCESS FOR PRODUCING CYCLIC UNSATURATED ALDEHYDES

A process for producing cyclic unsaturated aldehydes by reacting a cyclic conjugated diene compound with an aldehyde of the general formula (I): R-CH=CH-CHO ... (wherein R is C1-C3 alkyl) through the Diels-Alder reaction in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. The above process enables an efficient and industrially advantageous production of cyclic unsaturated aldehydes useful as the raw material of traction oil through the Diels-Alder reaction at a low cost without causing the corrosion of the equipment and can dispense with posttreatment after the reaction.
