A control system contains a sensor arrangement (100) for sensing an acceleration and generating a corresp. signal and a circuit which integrates the signal to produce a speed signal which it also integrates to produce a displacement signal. The acceleration and speed signals are weighted to produce further displacement signals. The three displacement signals are added to produce a total displacement signal. This is compared with a reference value to produce an instruction signal when the reference value is exceeded. USE/ADVANTAGE - Control system is for use in motor vehicle passenger safety systems. It enables relatively accurate prediction of effects of deceleration on body to enable suitable control measures to be taken.
