A method for indicating a status of a disk in a magazine or in a turn table. The method has the step of: outputting a first signal indicating no disk in a designated position in the magazine(2) when a disk(1) is not withdrawn from the magazine(2); outputting a second signal indicating an error in loading a disk(1) in the turn table(5) in place when the disk(1) is not loaded in place; and reading a lead-in portion of the disk(1) when the disk is loaded in place and there is the lead-in portion and thereby normally operating or outputting a third signal indicating that the disk(1) is upturned and no lead-in portion is detected.
