A braking control system for an automotive vehicle comprises a sensor 8 for detecting an actual yaw rate, a section 14 for calculating a target yaw rate in dependence on vehicle speed and a steering angle, a section 15 for calculating the difference between the actual and target yaw rates, and a braked-wheel discriminating section 17 for selecting a rear-inside wheel as a braked wheel when the sign of the actual yaw rate is different from that of the difference in yaw rate (this indicating understeer), and for selecting a front-outside wheel as the braked wheel when the sign of the actual yaw rate is the same as that of the difference in yaw rate (this indicating oversteer). In addition, systems are disclosed in which no braking occurs if the yaw rate or the difference lies within a preset range, and in the later case different ranges may be set in dependence on under- or over-steer.
