A device for spooling a cable, optical fibre etc comprises a cable push-and-pull device(14) on a frame (13) and a pivoting guide tube (20) on a linkage (19). The push-and-pull device is mounted below a lever. There is a guide associated with this device which deflects the cable from the horizontal to the vertical position and this is split, along with the guide tube, to allow the cable to be inserted or removed. The frame is a tripod. The push- and-pull device is driven by compressed air.
