The relay organ (41) is controlled depending on the operating variables of the IC engine determined by the sensors (47,48,49). The regulating organ connects a line e.g. with suction line (10) or the pressure line (25) to the pump chamber (11) with a return line (14), and in the open position of the line (10,25) relieves the pump chamber (11) of pressure. The regulating organ is connected parallel to the suction valve (12) of the pump chamber (11). The regulating organ and the pump valve (26) are arranged together as a combination valve (43). The regulating organ is arranged in the pulse line (39) of the crank housing (55) to the drive chamber (35).
