In a process for measuring the depth of penetration in a pipe union (33) consisting of the end (41) of a pipe (34) and a press fitting (35), ultrasounds are applied to the pipe (34) by an ultrasonic transmitter (29, 42) and the ultrasonic echo is detected by an ultrasonic receiver (29, 43) and the received signal is taken to a measuring circuit for evaluation as a value corresponding to the depth of penetration of the pipe (34). According to the invention, the ultrasounds are applied to the pipe (34) towards its end (41) at a given distance from the press fitting (35) and the ultrasonic signal reflected from the end (41) of the pipe is used as a signal corresponding to the depth of penetration of the pipe. |
