<p>Apparatus (6A) for use with a system having an input table (1A) for receiving a variety of roll-formed loads (C1) which are different in size and have axially extending center apertures therein into which a fork is inserted for handling, storage racks (4A) for storage of the loads, an output table (2A) for removal of the loads, and a fork-lift mechanism (63, Fig 12) for transferring the loads between the input table (1A), the storage racks (4A), and the output table (2A). A center detecting means (11, Fig 15 or 118, Fig 14) measures the location of the center aperture (C2) of each load placed on the input table (1A), a memory means (e.g. tags 5A) stores the location of the center aperture (C2) of the load, a read/write means reads and writes the location of the center aperture (C2) of the load on the memory means, and a fork controlling means operator so that the fork is correctly inserted into the center aperture of the load. The center detecting means (11) can also comprise a photoelectric switch (118) mounted on the fork for detecting the presence and absence of reflected light from front, a travelling means for moving the fork in a direction parallel to the diameter of the load, and a transducer means for calculating the location of the center aperture (C2) of the load from a signal output from movement of the photoelectric switch (118).</p> |
