A lockup friction clutch 12 is arranged parallel to a torque converter 11 and is operable by fluid pressure medium. The clutch has, on the one hand, a pressure chamber 24 between a turbine wheel 18 of the converter and an annular piston 74 operably connected to a friction plate 78 and has, on the other hand, a pressure chamber 25 arranged between the annular piston 74 and a converter cover 70. These chambers are designed such that a differential pressure present between them determines the torque transmittable by the friction clutch. The arrangement includes a measured value registering system, a central computer unit and a hydraulic system which transmits, in cooperation with the computer unit, an intended change to the differential pressure between the two pressure chambers 24, 25 and thus the torque transmissible by the friction clutch. The clutch is controlled in all drive gears and the torque converter features a torque conversion > 2.5. |
