Internal combustion engine with the crankshaft fitted in the cylinderblock over bearing caps

The IC engine includes a reinforcement component (6) below the cylinder block (1), at its edges, connected to the bearing caps (3). This component has internal connecting points (10) connected to cylindrical lugs (14) formed on the bolts (5) of the bearing caps for the crankshaft. This connection is formed by a plastics shell (16), pressed into the through boring (15) of the inner connecting points (10). The shell is supported by a lug (13) on the bolt (5) by set material (17) which has been cast in. This material may be an alloy of zinc, tin and bismuth, with melting point 199[deg]C, which expands on cooling.
