Process for decobalting a crude oxo reaction mixture containing aldehydes and cobalt by treating the mixture after it has been produced with an oxidizing agent for cobalt carbonyl at a temperature of more than 100‹ C. and immediately after it is produced in an aqueous acid medium and subsequently separting the aqueous phase containing cobalt salts from the treated oxo reaction mixture. Oxidizing agents may be hydrogen peroxide, oxygen or a gas containing molecular oxygen. The treatment may be carried out using an aqueous acid medium preferably having a pH of 2 to 6 containing an inorganic or organic acid e.g. fatty acids such as formic, acetic or butyric acid. |
