Synthetic peptides of the general formula A-B-C-D-(E)p, wherein p is 0 or 1, with an improved resistance to proteolytic degradation by enzymes due to the presence of adjacent amino acids, optionally combined with the substitution of an amide bond (-CO-NH-) by (Y-N-R18), e.g. aminomethylene (-CH2NH-) and/or modification of the N- or C- terminal end of the peptide. The peptide derivatives stimulate the release of growth hormone from the pituitary. Disclosed is also their use for preparation of medicam ents and pharmaceutical compositions comprising them.
