Polyesteramides are prepared by condensing (A) one or more polyamines of formula H2N(RNH)nH, where R is a 2-6C alkylene preferably a 2-3C alkylene, and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4; at elast 50% is a compound where n is 1; (B) a diol where R' is a 2-6C alkylene; X is a 3-4C 2-alkylidene; m,p. >=1, and m + p 4; (C) at least one polymeric fatty acid; and optionally a minor amount of (D) an aromatic fiamine, a cycloaliphatic diamine and/or a polyamine containing secondary amine groups. Preferably the ratio of OH to amine equivalents is 5:9 to 50:50, especially between 10:90 and 25:75, and there is one carboxy equivalent per equivalent of OH + amine. Alcohol solutions of these polyesteramides show less tendency to gel on standing, or on exposure to low temperatures than solutions of polyamides prepared from (A), (C) and (D). Uses are in printing ink compositions.
|
