PURPOSE:To enable a printing result to be identified successively from the beginning of a sentence, by a method wherein, with a change-over from a normal-image printing to a reverse printing a tape feed is changed from a forward direction to a reverse direction without changing a direction of reading the dot pattern of a printing character. CONSTITUTION:When a normal-image printing mode is selected by operating a mode change-over key 20, a printing tape 32 is fed leftward while being pulled out from a spool 48, and accordingly an ink ribbon 36 is also fed in the same direction. The dot pattern of a printing character is read by every row, a normal-image printing is applied to the printing tape 32 which is being fed forward, and the printing result is normally identified from the beginning of a sentence. When a reverse printing mode is selected, the printing tape 32 is fed rightward, and accordingly the ink ribbon 36 is also fed in the same direction. The dot pattern of the printing character is read in the same direction as the normal-image printing, namely being read rightward from the left end, i.e. from the beginning to the end in a sentence. |
