PURPOSE: To exhibit an effect obtained by water injection in the whole range of engine operation. CONSTITUTION: A first water passage 30 to which water from a water pump 21 is introduced by pressure which is lower than the valve opening pressure of a needle valve 5 during a period when the injection operation of a fuel pump is suspended, is connected to an upstream fuel passage part 14 close to a fuel sump 13 arranged at the end of the needle valve 5. A second water passage 31 to which water from the water pump 21 is introduced by pressure which is lower than the valve opening pressure of the needle valve 5 during the period when the injection operation of the fuel pump is suspended, is connected to a fuel passage part between this connecting part and the fuel sump 13. A solenoid valve 32 by which these water passages are selectively changed over is arranged, and these water passages are changed over in such a way that a part in which the capacity of the fuel sump is small is used for a light-load and a larger part of a connecting part to the first water passage 30 and the capacity of the fuel sump is used for middle and high loads, so that initial fuel injection quantity possible to inject water can be injected in the whole range of an engine load. |
