PURPOSE: To obtain a defoaming agent containing a specific nitrogen-contg. compound, having antifoaming effect, and useful for aerating culture, agitating culture and shaking culture, etc. CONSTITUTION: This defoaming agent contains a compound of formula I or II [at least one of R<1> -R<3> is a group of the formula, A-H (A is a (poly) oxyalkylene), the others being H, a 1-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R<4> is methyl, ethyl or benzyl; X<-> is an anionic component such as Cl<-> , Br<-> or SO4 <2-> ]. This defoaming agent is used in such a way that 0.0001-2wt.% of the compound is added to a medium prior to or during culture. |
