PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure and to prevent sudden start after an engine is started. SOLUTION: A select lever lock device comprises a cam plate 7 where a detent pin 4 is engaged and a slider 21 is engaged with a select lever 1 positioned in a P range, which is rotatably provided, and a cable 10 is connected to the cam plate in such a manner that only when the select lever 1 is positioned in the P range, a key lock is released, and the slider 21 is controlled to move forward and backward, linking with the operation of a brake. The device further comprises a stopper for regulating the rotation of the cam plate 7 in such a manner that when the select lever 1 is positioned outside the P range, the cam plate 7 is not engaged with the detent pin 4. Thus, an engine can be started by inserting a key only when the select lever 1 is in the P range, and in order to shift the lever from the P range to the other range after the engine is started, it is always necessary to conduct the brake operation, so that shifting from the range outside the P range to the P range can be smoothed. |
