PURPOSE: To produce a glass cloth excellent in copper migration preventing effect by treating the surface of the glass cloth with a silane coupling agent containing a terminal imidazole group. CONSTITUTION: A surface treating agent containing 0.005-10wt.% of a terminal imidazole group-containing silane coupling agent of formula I to formula III (R<1> , R<2> and R<3> are each H, an alkyl, vinyl, phenyl or benzyl; R<4> is an (alkoxy) alkyl; R<5> is an alkyl; (n) is an inter of 0 or 1) is prepared. A heat-treated and de-fatted glass cloth substrate is immersed in a solution of the surface treating agent, stuck with the agent in 15-40% pickup and dried to give the objective surface treated glass cloth.
