PURPOSE: To estimate the quantity of a brake fluid stored in a reservoir by an inexpensive means and obtain sufficient deceleration even in the case of intensifying pressure slowly. CONSTITUTION: A hydraulic pressure control device FV is driven to connect a wheel cylinder WC in the communicating state to a reservoir RT through a return hydraulic pressure passage RP. A brake fluid is thereby stored in the reservoir to reduce pressure, and according to the operation of the hydraulic pump FP, the brake fluid in the reservoir is discharged to the return hydraulic pressure passage and returned to the wheel cylinder WC to reduce pressure and to intensify pressure slowly. In such constitution, when the sudden decrease state of a motor load detecting means DL is detected, the run-out state of the brake fluid quantity in the reservoir is estimated. In the case of the brake fluid having run out, the brake fluid is taken into the wheel cylinder WC from a hydraulic pressure generating device PG.
