PURPOSE: To decompose a sulfurous acid adduct in a high concentration by treating an acrylic acid derivative-sulfurous acid adduct with the immobilized cell biological catalyst of a microorganism belonging to the genus Alcaligenes and having an ability to assimilate the sulfurous acid adduct. CONSTITUTION: Anα,β-unsaturated compound (e.g. acrylonitrile) of formula I (R<2> , R<3> are H, methyl; X is CN, CONH2 , COOH, COCH3 ) is reacted with a sulfurous acid or its alkali metal salt of formula: R<1> HSO3 (R<1> is H, an alkali metal atom). The obtained solfurous acid adduct of formula II is treated with an immobilized biological catalyst to decompose the objective sulfurous acid adduct not decomposed by a chemical oxidation treatment, etc., in a high concentration. The immobilized biological catalyst is obtained by covering the cells of a microorganism [e.g. Alcaligenes Sp.MR-2201 strain (FERM P-13958)] belonging to the genus Alcaligenes and having an ability to assimilate the sulfurous acid adduct. |
