PURPOSE: To obtain an aqueous polymer dispersion having a high chitosan concentration and good dispersion stability and being useful for skin care preparations, hair care preparations, medical materials, textile materials, paper processing materials, packaging materials, coating materials, food materials, etc. CONSTITUTION: This aqueous polymer dispersion is has a mean particle diameter of 1μm or below and in which the chitosan is present on the surface of a particle or both on and inside a particle and obtained desirably by polymerizing a radical-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer in water in the presence of chitosan at least a part of the amino groups of which are neutralized with a radical-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer having an acid functional group and a nonpolymerizable acid. |
