A shaped section (1) is fixed on the top and the edge of the step (2). It is a bracket with unequal flanges. The longer flange (6) forms a support on the top of the step and extends beyond the point where it joins the shorter flange (7) forming a lip (8) with a raised edge (9). The shorter flange is fixed to the top and the edge of the step and has a groove running longitudinally (11) for centring self threading screws (12). It has a rib (7') lose to the lip. The longer flange also has one or more grooves for centring self threading screws. A shaped section (5) forming the nosing of the step is positioned using screws (52) which are then covered with a seal (54). The nosing has a non slip surface (55).
