[Also in Division B7] A ball bearing assembly having inner and outer races 24 and 26, each having a groove for receiving bearing balls 22 which hold the members together and limits relative axial movement of the members in one direction has the groove in the outer race enlarged (28) in a direction opposite to the said one direction so as to provide clearance for the balls on relative axial movement of the members, a passageway 30 being provided in the outer member which communicates with the enlargement to facilitate the loading and unloading of balls, the passageway having a width across the groove larger than the diameter of one of the balls, and a length along the groove greater than twice the diameter of the balls. The outer end of the passageway 30 is closed with a cap 36 and is also provided with a threaded portion 46 into which may be screwed a tube 48 containing bearing balls in order to facilitate the loading of balls into the races. When the passageway 30 is situated opposite the groove 24, the bearing balls readily drop into or out of the bearing. An 0-ring 54 may be provided to prevent oil leakage. |
