A receiver, for example a pager, can receive information subject to charge. In a reception control unit (2) the information to be processed and displayed is filtered out. The information to be processed is selected by means of an input unit (5).Charge metering equipment (6) is arranged in the receiver to determine the charge for the selected information. When the charges reach a determined limit, the selection of further information is blocked. When the limit is exceeded, processing of further information subject to charges is stopped. The user may thus choose himself within his credit limits which information or services he wants to receive without having to contact the service supplier or network administrator. The credit limit may be modified upon demand.
