The footwear, esp. for sporting use, has a high top which is reinforced by a series of interlocking and alternating vanes in a support made from a fabric which can stretch vertically. The vanes exert an appropriate pressure and traction as the foot is moved, supporting the bones and tissues of the heel and ankle.
